Destination Description
France may have a repudation for hunting and trapping of passerines in the past, but it is a large country with many areas of low population desnsity and lots of small non-intensive farms. It is also still very well wooded in parts and so retains good populations of many species which are scarcer in more intensively farmed European countries. Moreover, in the deep south the Camargue wetlands remain one of Europe's best for birds. Birding tour companies tend to be centred in different areas and so we have divided France into three parts and one island as 'destinations'.
